Shri Rochiram Thawani was born on 8th August 1916 at Halani (Sindh).He was educated upto Inter Science at Hyederabad (Sindh). He was a Teacher in Willis High School at Nawabshah for 2 years

He was a District Scout Master and then Assistant Commissioner (Scouts) for Sindh Province . He Left service in 1938 to join freedom movement full time.

He was Assistant Provincial Organiser of Congress Seva Dal and took active part in Quit India Movement of 1942

During the Independence struggle of India, was imprisoned for 3 years in Nawabshah, Sukkur and Hyderabad jails.

(During Quit India Movement of 1942, all the members of Thawani family from three generations were in prison, including 4 gents, 4 ladies and 2 children. Hence the Thawani family was known as Nehru family of Sindh). In 1947 migrated to Nagpur. He was given Class I official status with facilities for rehabilitation and relief work, by Government of India and then Government of Madhya Pradesh (M.P.)
