Today marks the birth anniversary of  Rita V. Shahani, a prominent writer, poetess, and novelist. She was born on August 24th, 1934, in Hyderabad, Sindh, and migrated to Lucknow, India in 1947 at the age of 13. Her literary journey began with writing poems when she was just twenty years old. Over the years, she crafted novels, essays, poems, travelogues, and even penned her own autobiography, amassing a total of 41 authored works.

Rita V. Shahani was an integral part of various educational and women’s organizations. She served as a member of the Board of Studies for the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Additionally, she held the position of Vice-President at the Board of Jai Hind High School in Pimpri for a remarkable 25 years. Her dedication extended to her role as Secretary of the Pune Women’s Council, an affiliate of the National Council of Women in Delhi. Notably, she was also a valued member of the National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language.
